The Wix
Design Library

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The Wix Design Library was a self initiated project within my team. We had been working on cross-company projects for a while, observing how designers work, what they need, and how different those needs are from one team to another.

It was becoming clear the time was right to create a coherent design library - one destination for all designers. A way to provide the right guidance and make sure we all avoid future inconsistencies.

One of the first things we decided on was naming it a "Design Library", rather than "Brand Book", or "Brand Guidelines". We wanted the name to reflect the concept of this website - a place you check every once in a while to see what’s new; take with you what you want or need; then move on motivated and inspired. We wanted the assets to be used by everyone, but in an inviting rather than rigid form.

Working on the website began with our UI and product design expert - Andrew. He created the grid and typography guidelines. Meanwhile we were deciding on the format - what sort of guidelines were necessary to have and what would be the best practices to organize this information. After research, inspiration and checking resources, we had the final strategy for both the content and the design of the library.

We announced the launch of the website the day it went live by sending a video we created to all Wix employees.

The concept was simply following the art direction of the library images - covering things in paint. This time instead of objects, it was the four lucky designers who worked on the website.
